BlazingCDN vs Fastly
Fastly publishes its rate card, which is more than most of this industry does. The problem is where the rate card stops.
Our rate is printed on the pricing page. You can check it before you talk to anyone.
Fastly prints $0.12 per GB in North America and Europe, then $0.08 on the next 10 TB. After roughly 20 TB a month the page says contact us, which is where most of our customers start.
Or open the full pricing table and read the rate yourself.
Which one actually fits your traffic
We would rather lose the click than lose a month of your team’s time. Here is the honest split.
Pick BlazingCDN if
- You move video, game builds, updates or other large files
- You are past 20 TB, where their published price stops and ours keeps stepping down
- You serve Asia, India or Africa and do not want to pay double for it
- Terabytes drive your bill, not requests or edge compute
- You are adding a second CDN next to the one you already run
Pick Fastly if
- You want to run code at the edge: Fastly Compute is genuinely ahead of anything we offer
- You need instant global purge, measured in a fraction of a second
- You want VCL: a real configuration language rather than a settings panel
- You need real-time log streaming into your own pipeline
- Your traffic sits under 20 TB, where their published rate card still applies

Where their published price runs out
This is not our characterisation. It is the last line of their own rate card.
“100 GB – 10 TB: $0.12 · Next 10 TB: $0.08 · Contact us for high-volume pricing”
North America and Europe, per GB per region per month. Requests are billed on top: 1 million free, then $0.01 per 10,000.
Fastly pricing page. Checked 28 August 2026. Read it on their site
What it means in practice
Add it up and 20 TB in North America is $1,988 of bandwidth, plus about $99 of requests at a 200 KB average object. The same 20 TB here is $92.50. And 20 TB is the end of their published card, not a step in it: past that you are asking for a quote, which is the thing their pricing page is otherwise admirably free of.
Why ours keeps going
Our table does not stop. It steps down through 25, 100, 500 and 1,000 TB to $2.50, and every step is printed. See the full tier table, Video CDN and Anycast CDN.
Tell us your monthly terabytes. We send back the number.
No account needed to get a price. One email, one answer.
Speed tests look similar on both networks. The invoice does not. Here is the same traffic, priced two ways.
20 TB a month here, billed across progressive tiers: $5 on the first 5 TB, then $4.50. Requests, invalidations and logs are not metered on top.
The same 20 TB on Fastly’s published North America rate: $1,988 of bandwidth plus roughly $99 of requests. That is 22 times ours, and it is the last volume they publish a price for.
Run your own volume through it
50 TB a month
$4.30 a terabyte effective. Fastly publishes no rate at this volume; their card ends at 20 TB.
200 TB a month
Where most video and software teams sit. $3.83 a terabyte effective. Ten times past the end of Fastly’s published pricing.
1 PB a month
1,000 TB billed down through the tiers, $3.32 a terabyte effective, still printed on a public page.
Our pricing is progressive, like tax brackets: $5 on the first 5 TB, stepping down to $2.50 above 1,000 TB. Fastly figures are calculated from their published North America and Europe rates, checked 28 August 2026. Their other regions cost more, and above 20 TB they publish nothing.
The three questions everyone asks next
Fastly is famously fast, though
It is, and we are not going to argue with their engineering. Test it on your own files rather than taking either of our words: point one pull zone at us, compare, keep whichever wins. Our own numbers are on Performance Metrics.
Do I have to move everything?
No. Most teams move the heavy traffic first, video, builds and downloads, and leave the rest where it is.
We rely on VCL for everything
Then keep it. This is the strongest reason to stay, and moving edge logic is a real project. Split by workload instead: leave the paths that need VCL on Fastly and send the large static objects, the ones VCL does nothing clever to, to us.
Keep it. Move the heavy traffic to us.
You do not have to pick a winner. Keep Fastly for the edge logic and the instant purge, and move the terabytes that drive the invoice to a network priced for them.
- One pull zone, pointed at the origin you already use
- From $5 down to $2.50 per TB, published, no negotiation to see it
- Roll back by changing one CNAME if you do not like the result
Get your rate
Four fields. We reply with a written price for your volume, usually the same day.
We use this only to price your traffic and reply to you.
Splitting the traffic takes an afternoon
Create a pull zone
Point it at the same origin Fastly already pulls from. Nothing changes on your side.
Move the heavy paths
Video segments, installers, patches, archives. The paths that generate the terabytes on your invoice.
Compare one invoice
One billing cycle is enough to see the difference. If it is not better, change the CNAME back.
What you can find out before you talk to anyone
Both of us publish. The difference is how far up the volume curve the publishing goes.
Where you start
$5 per TB delivered, pay as you go, with a $25 monthly minimum that covers 5 TB
100 GB of bandwidth and 1 million requests free every month, then $0.12 per GB in North America and Europe
Mid tier
The same tier table. Your rate steps down as volume grows, with nothing to re-sign
$0.08 per GB on the next 10 TB, which works out at $80 per TB
The tier that carries heavy traffic
$2.50 per TB on the top tier, and no platform fee at any volume
Not published above about 20 TB. The rate card ends and the contact form begins
Commitment
None. Monthly, stop whenever you like
None on the published tiers. Self serve with a card, no sales call needed
What gets billed
Delivered traffic only. Cache volume is never billed
Bandwidth per region, plus requests, plus any add-on products you enable
Fastly figures are their published rates for North America and Europe, checked 28 August 2026. Their card lists ten regions and the most expensive are more than double the cheapest. Above roughly 20 TB a month they publish no rate at all.
CDN feature by feature
Static files, downloads, images and APIs. Everything on our side is taken from our product documentation, and we have left in the rows where they are ahead.
Routing
Anycast with built in failover. 50+ signals weighed per request, routes re-evaluated in real time
Anycast across a smaller but very well engineered set of large POPs
Cache control
TTL up to 365 days, a separate TTL per HTTP status code, minimum requests to cache from 1 to 10, inherit or ignore origin headers
Full cache control expressed in VCL, as precise as you are willing to write
Per-path rules
Locations: a rule set matched to an HTTP route, so different parts of one resource get different delivery settings. Extension proxying, URL parameter truncation, HLS and DASH handling and image processing, all per path
VCL. A real configuration language at the edge, plus Fastly Compute for WebAssembly. This is their best feature and we have nothing like it
Purge
By path, in bulk, or total purge in one action. Plus cache warm-up through the API before a release
Instant purge, globally, in a fraction of a second, plus surrogate-key purging. Genuinely better than ours
Origin Shield
Included. Automatic, or pinned to a region you choose
Origin Shield available as a shielding POP you nominate
Compression
gzip, Brotli and zstd. At the edge or at origin, with a separate cache per encoding
gzip and Brotli
Delivery speed control
A download speed cap you set per account, per domain or per URL, plus rate matched delivery so one big file does not take the whole pipe. Request intensity limits per client or subnet on top of that
No delivery speed control as a setting; you would write it in VCL
Signed URLs
Validity window, signature bound to a client IP, a limit of 1 to 5 unique IPs per link, two secrets for rotation, partial path signing and URL encryption
Token validation and signed URLs, implemented in VCL
Country and IP lists
Country allowlist or blocklist, IP allowlist or blocklist with mask support, referrer allow and deny lists and cookie checks. Set per resource, with no security plan to buy
Geo and IP conditions in VCL, and ACLs you maintain yourself
Security stack
Their round
Access control as settings: country and IP lists, referrer rules, cookie checks, no code to write
Next-Gen WAF and DDoS protection, sold as separate products. We do not sell security and do not claim to
Certificates
Let’s Encrypt at no extra charge, renewed automatically. Upload your own, in bulk, auto-assigned to matching domains
TLS certificates included on paid plans, with your own certificates supported
Origins and import
HTTP(S), S3, Swift, Wasabi and S3 compatible buckets, FTP, SFTP, rclone and rsync. Pull or push, pre-import or lazy, with a callback on the result
Any HTTP origin, with shielding and origin health checks
Image processing
One file at origin, every variant from a query string on your own domain. Variants are cached like any other file and cost nothing extra
Fastly Image Optimizer, a separately billed add-on
Logs and metrics
A Prometheus endpoint, Grafana, Alertmanager and OpenTelemetry on every account. Raw JSON logs for Graylog or ELK as a $50 a month add-on
Real-time log streaming into more than twenty destinations. Also better than ours
Running it from an agent
One MCP server, 52 typed tools: pull zones, cache and purge, metrics, domains and certificates, Cloud Storage and Video CDN. Read-only by default, with cache purge and warm-up; create and update are opt-in; deletes are a second opt-in limited to custom domains and Video CDN resources, and deleting pull zones, buckets or accounts is not implemented at all. Public on npm as @blazingcdn/mcp
Full API, CLI and Terraform provider. No MCP server that configures the CDN as a typed toolset
Our column is taken from our own published feature list. The Fastly column describes their publicly documented products and published rates, checked 28 August 2026. Three rows in this table go to them, and they are the three that would make us pick Fastly too.
Six places where we win
Not opinions. Each of these is a line item you can check on an invoice or in a config screen.
$92.50 against $2,087
The same 20 TB, bandwidth and requests, on their published North America rate against ours. That is 22 times, and 20 TB is the highest volume they price in public.
One rate, every region
Fastly publishes ten regional rates, and Africa, India and South Korea cost more than double North America. If you serve Asia or India, that multiplier lands on your whole bill. Ours does not change by region.
Cache is never billed
Cache volume is never billed. You pay for what left the edge, not for how much of your library is sitting on it.
Raw logs, no upsell
A Prometheus endpoint, Grafana, Alertmanager and OpenTelemetry on every account, raw JSON logs for Graylog or ELK as a $50 a month add-on. Elsewhere raw logs are an Enterprise line item.
Links bound to a person
A signature can be tied to a client IP with a limit of 1 to 5 addresses, signed on part of the path, with the URL encrypted and two secrets you can rotate.
Knobs a platform hides
Chunk length, keyframe alignment, pre-cached first chunks, millisecond clipping, track selection, and any origin from S3 to rsync. Delivery is the product, so it is all exposed.
And four places where they win
If any of these four is the reason you are shopping, buy Fastly. We would rather you read this here than find it out in month two.
- Fastly Compute and VCL. Running real code at the edge is their product and it is not ours, at any price.
- Instant global purge and surrogate keys. Ours purges by path and in bulk; theirs is faster and finer.
- Real-time log streaming into your own pipeline, to more than twenty destinations.
- A published rate card with no minimum and no sales call, and 100 GB free every month. Under 20 TB that is a genuinely good deal.
